To the Editor:
My name is Sara Frampton and I am proud to be a Democratic candidate for the Board of Education. I am a native Newtowner. I have attended St Rose School, Middle Gate School, Newtown Middle School and Newtown High School.
I have a BA in political science, a masters in elementary education with a certificate in educational technology from Sacred Heart University. During my educational process I have been in a variety of educational settings including public schools in both inner city and rural areas, private school and parochial school.
I am currently a second grade teacher at St. Mary School in Milford. I am also a technology integration specialist for preschool â 8th grade at St Mary.
I have many unique qualities that are missing from the current BOE. I am a teacher, which means I am fully engrossed in what education is during my entire life not just at two meetings a month. While I was in college I worked for the Board of Education in the transportation department under Mary Kelly. I attended Newtown High School during the last addition, I understand some of the problems that the students will be facing during construction at Newtown High School.
I believe in asking questions until I am satisfied that the answer is complete. I believe that the citizens of Newtown have a right to have their questions answered by the BOE in a timely fashion.
I think the Board of Finance is doing an excellent job looking out for the town as a whole and the BOE needs to do everything they can to fully cooperate with them.
Every child deserves a quality education, and I give that everyday. Working at a Catholic school I have seen that you donât have to spend a lot of money to get a lot out of an education. A big part of life is budgeting and living within our means, in order to do this we have to learn the difference between a need and a want, we need to give all of our children a quality education! We need to submit a budget that can be understood by the voters. People need to see where the money is being spent so the resentment over the last few yearâs budget process can finally subside. We need to get the trust of the taxpayers back!
I have always been involved in the community. I taught religious education for eight years and was a volunteer for the St Rose Youth Group. I have been on the Democratic Town committee since I was 18 and have served on the ethics committee for the last seven years.
There are many challenges facing our next BOE, I can think outside the box. I research a problem thoroughly and listen to everyoneâs point of view before deciding on my course of action. I am enthusiastic, dedicated and determined. I am looking forward to serving Newtown on the Board of Education!
Sincerely,
Sara Frampton, Democratic Board of Ed candidate
