To the Editor:

When Rich Simon retired to Florida this past August, the Police Commission lost a valuable asset. Rich spent many hours involved with the Police Department to help him fully understand their workings and needs.

Newtown is very fortunate that Rodger Sperling has stepped forward as a candidate this November. I have known Rodger for over 50 years. He is hard working, honest, and dependable. He asks questions and looks into things, he is not a rubber stamper. Having lived in Newtown for 48 years he is familiar with the workings of town. He retired in 1999 so he has the time available to work with the Police Department and look into things as Rich Simon did.

Rodger does not have a personal agenda for running for the Board of Police Commissioners. He just wants to do his part for Newtown. You will find Rodger on the second side of the ballot in the Democrat’s row.

Sincerely,

Andrew M Sherwood, Sr,

former resident of Newtown
