Iâd like to thank The Bee for devoting so much coverage to keeping the voters informed on the candidates and their stand on the issues (Bee Friday, October 26). I was thrilled to see that a former colleague of mine from NHS was running for Legislative Council. Jan Lee Brookes wholeheartedly devoted over 20 years of her life to teaching kids the value of respecting and caring for others, the importance of learning about appreciating other cultures and points of view, and the practical importance of listening as a key to success in resolving issues.
In relation to our town, Jan has presented what I feel to be the most practical and positive approach to resolving the issues facing us today: increased tax revenue through encouraging business development in areas where it will have the least negative impact, measured and responsible spending, and a reconciliation of factions in pursuit of the common good.
I hope Newtownâs voters will recognize their opportunity to bring her tremendous talents to bear on our issues, and give her a chance to prove herself in this exciting new life venture. I know she has my vote.
