Occupation: I’m a retired airline pilot. I was with American Airlines for 32 years before I retired in 1988.

Family: My wife, Gerrie, and one daughter, Jane Kelly. Jane lives I Deltona, Fla. She is an RN nurse educator.

Pets: We have Little Annie. Her real name is Anastasia. She’s a miniature poodle who is the queen of the house. Annie is 11 years old.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We moved here in 1969, so it was 38 years ago in August.

What do you like to do in your free time? I play tennis and I read a lot. I have a book going all the time. Just taking care of things around the house is like a full-time job.

Do you have a favorite author? My favorite author is William Tapply, a mystery writer. I also like another mystery writer, Stuart Woods.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We spend six months of the year in St Augustine, Fla., so I guess that must be my favorite place!

What is the best thing about Newtown? I like the area. I like the summers here, and I like the people. I meet five days a week with the guys at My Place for coffee in the morning.

What are some of the changes you have seen in Newtown?  I was flying out of New York City a lot when we moved here and we thought we had gotten far enough away to not be in a bedroom community. But the increase in population and traffic has changed it from the rural community it was, to suburbia.

Do you have a hero? I would have to say Jesus Christ. He’s my savior. I consider myself to be fairly religious, so He is the obvious answer.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Living one day at a time. The only day we have promised is the day we are living.

What do you most cherish in your life? My family. It’s not a big family, but we’re very close. They’re supportive and loving.
