Looking For The

Hit-And-Run Driver

To the Editor:

I am the grandfather of the 8-year-old that was injured by a hit and run automobile on Queen Street in Newtown on October 14. It breaks my heart to see my grandson with his legs in casts and the many serious cuts and bruises he sustained in the accident. The Newtown Police say he was not in a crosswalk. There are no crosswalks in the area of the accident. He was not negligent. He ran into the street to get a ball which was thrown over a fence and rolled into the street. He looked both ways before he went into the street. From his perspective, he could not see over the incline in the road. I perceive that the car was traveling at a great speed and hit my grandson before he could see the car.

It’s true that his injuries are not life-threatening, but when a child of 8 must miss school and all other events for four to six weeks, it’s a serious matter.

I have been looking for the car and driver for a week. We have had very little information from the Newtown Police despite our calls, which many have not been returned. Whoever you are, we will catch you, don’t even doubt that. I will love to see your face when they cuff you and take you to jail where you belong. If you were a good person, a caring person, you would surrender before being caught.
