Former Resident Publishes Book
Former Newtown resident Theodore Carl Soderberg has spent 40 years on the high seas, and now he has turned his real-life adventures into a work of fiction. Uncharted Waters was published by PublishAmerica, Inc this year and tells the tale of a young Merchant Marine sailor aboard a ship during operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm.
Mr Soderberg served in the US Navy from 1967 to 1969. Following his discharge from the service, he attended the College of Marin in Kentfield, Calif. and San Francisco State, working as a commercial fisherman during summer breaks. Although he spent the next few years high and dry, selling cars in California, he never lost his love of the sea.
He enlisted once again in the US Navy at the age of 38, and in 1989, Mr Soderberg joined the Merchant Marine, serving today with the Sailors Union of the Pacific. His travels have taken him around the world, giving him plenty of fodder to feed his imagination and fuel a novel.
