Helen E. Rinkinen Bausch

Helen E. (Rinkinen) Bausch, 92, of Templeton Farms, Kent, formerly of Sandy Hook, died October 31 at the New Milford Nursing Home after a brief illness. She was the wife of Carl A. Bausch, who predeceased her.

Helen (Hilja) was born in Sortavala, Finland, emigrating with her family to New York in 1916 at the age of ten. For a few years they lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. and eventually settled in Brooklyn, Conn. While still a teenager, she and two of her adventurous girlfriends went to work for Mr and Mrs Pierre S. du Pont at Longwood Gardens, a celebrated showplace of outdoor gardens and conservatories in Kennett Square, Penn. There she met her husband Carl, a greenhouse gardener and also a Connecticut native. They retired after 30 years at Longwood Gardens and relocated to Connecticut, then moving from Sandy Hook to Kent 23 years ago.

She leaves three children, Carlene Moscatt of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, James L. Bausch of Warren and William C. Bausch of Washington Depot; six grandchildren; and three nieces, Carol Voigt of Old Saybrook, Barbara Domizio of Trumbull and Judy Thompson of Clarksville, Tenn.

A graveside service was held at the Mountain Grove Cemetery in Bridgeport on November 2.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Kent Volunteer Fire Departments and Kent Senior Nutrition Center.

Arrangements were by the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford.
