The top cross country teams from all class sizes throughout the state competed in the State Open championship races at Wickham Park in Manchester on November 1.

Newtown High School's girls' squad placed 15th among 20 schools. Danbury was first.

There were 172 finishers among the girls. Rylee Harrell placed 33rd in a time of 20:48; Emily Tressler was 68th in 21:46; Lu Hage came in 89th in 22:10; Maddie Fetchick was 102nd with a time of 22:42; Courtney Henchcliffe was 103rd in 22:42; Gloria Rowley came in 117th 23:29; and Katya Kost was 121st 24:02.
