To The Editor:

Jahana Hayes is my choice for reelection as the US Representative for Connecticut’s 5th congressional district, including Newtown. When she was first elected in 2018, Jahana became the first African American Congresswoman from Connecticut. She has proven her determination and bipartisan support for gun violence prevention, immigration reform, and affordable healthcare by championing 11 bills that became law under the Biden and Trump administrations.

Jahana is a fierce supporter of social justice and Veterans’ benefits. She advocates for equitable access to educational opportunities and food security for all. She supports labor, improved transportation, and environmental protection.

Jahana turned service into success as a teacher and now a legislator. She began by earning multiple degrees, taught high school, and was named Teacher of the Year by President Obama in 2016. As an advocate for her young students, Jahana decided to run for office when she thought “who will speak for them, if not me?”

Jahana believes in getting things done and improving the lives of everyone in our community. She is living proof that good government can work for all of us. We can continue her success by voting for Jahana Hayes for US Representative on November 5th!
