Pumpkin Hunter Pace A Success
To The Editor:
Since 1978, the Newtown Bridle Lands Association has hosted the annual Frost on the Pumpkin Hunter Pace. This year was no exception and it was a great success. Over 20 landowners generously allow dozens of riders to follow the approximately 8 mile course that crosses private property, town land and Newtown Forest Association property. It’s a tradition that harks back to the earlier days of equestrian activities in our town. Although we rarely see horses pulling plows or wagons in Newtown anymore, they are still an important part of our character and economy (with many boarding stables, training, veterinarians, farriers and stable workers). The pace is a fun culmination of the riding season and because it is held on the last Sunday in October, many of the riders dress up themselves and their horses in creative costumes. No small feat with a 1,000 pound animal!
The NBLA is so grateful not only to the landowners, but also to over 25 volunteers who set aside the entire day to help in our success. We also thank our sponsors including Fairfield Equine Associates, Connecticut Tree Doctor, Grand Prix Equine, The Barn Yard, Sandbox Daycare, Agriventure Agway, Danbury Auto Spring & Welding, Dee/Jay Dumpster Service, Happy Trails Farm, Renia Marini of Coldwell Banker, Sal e Pepe Restaurant, Tambascio’s Italian Grill, and TPL Architect.
This hunter pace is a fundraiser for us and this year we have cleared or improved a number of trails in Newtown for the enjoyment of all passive recreation users. We are committed to preserving open space in our special town.
