To the Editor:
I am appalled at the lack of respect for democracy and for the citizens of Connecticut shown by Senator Lieberman! He is making a mockery of our society. Joeâs disregard is a direct slap in the face to each of the concerned citizens of our state and this great country. He has failed to address the needs of Connecticut as our senator for the last 12 years and he continues to fail us by not sharing his vision for Connecticutâs future with its citizens. Joeâs hunger for the national spotlight has come at the expense of the best interests of Connecticut. His lack of representation has caused devastating repercussions in our state. Joe has missed crucial votes in Washington. Home heating oil and gas prices are out of control and many families will not be able to afford heat this winter. Where is Joeâs plan, Joeâs vision? Why is he running from the needs of Connecticutâs residents? What does he have to hide? Is it his deficient representation of our seniors, our children, our veterans, our working moms and dads? Is it that he just doesnât care anymore?
Does Joe believe that a lead in the polls here in Connecticut assures you of a victory in November? I hope Joe remembers that at the same time 12 years ago he was a trailing challenger, way behind in the polls. The good people of Connecticut managed to change the course of history in just a few short weeks. Donât underestimate the intelligence of the voters of Connecticut!
He has chosen to run for two offices at once. He should not further insult the people of Connecticut by denying them a senatorial debate. Recently, Joe has adopted the Gore stance on many issues. Over the last 12 years, Joe has held a contrary position to such issues as Social Security âlock boxâ protection, school vouchers, privatization of Social Security, and affirmative action, to name a few. As I have been tirelessly campaigning across our state, residents have been complaining about Joeâs flip-flops, which have been well documented across the country. The people of Connecticut want answers! Connecticut needs leadership. Where is Joe Lieberman? Howâs the weather in California, Joe?
If he doesnât have 90 minutes for Connecticut, he obviously doesnât care about us.
Sincerely,
Phil Giordano
