Family: my parents, Mike and Deb; sister Kate, brother-in-law David, and niece and nephew Jamie and Zach.

Do you have any nicknames? Oz.

Pets? Just a couple (laughs). I have three dogs — Charlie, Seamus and Zinnia; and we have 30-some-odd chickens, five ducks, two goats, and our barn cat Shashimi.

How long have you lived in Sandy Hook? 32 years total. I was born here and lived here until I went to college in New York City, although technically this was still home. I stayed there 13 years before coming back. We’re a fourth generation Newtown family. Our great-grandparents bought the property that is Appleberry Farm in the late 30s, and generations of Osbornes have been here since.

Work: I work at Appleberry. I’m a flower farmer-florist. We are flower farmers that grow a little over two acres here. We use the flowers we grow, and flowers from other local farms, also get flowers from the Connecticut Flower Collective, to do everything from one-off bouquets and our weekly flower CSA to major events like weddings, big parties, etc. What do you like to do with your free time? I coach roller derby through the Connecticut All-Stars. I used to play too, but not any longer. I work on my work, and work in my own gardens.

Are you a member of any local clubs, organizations and/or communities of faith? I’ve been on the board of Newtown Scholarship Association since moving back to town. I’m the third generation in my family to be involved with NSA. My mother and grandmother were both on the board.

If you could spend the day with one person, living or deceased, who would you choose and why? My maternal grandfather, Henry Rixford. I never met him. He’s my one grandparent I never met; he passed away before I was born. I had such a beautiful relationship with all my other grandparents, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have known him and spend time with him. He was a musician, and liked to tinker with things, and he seems like a really interesting guy.

What was the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Deadpool, although I’m really excited to see Wicked.

Do you have a favorite actor? There are too many to count, but I’m a huge fan of Bill Murray — I think everyone is — and I loved Robin Williams and love Steve Martin.

Favorite movie genre? Anything but horror. I love movies! I will go see any movie. When I lived in New York, every Sunday morning I’d have rotating friends who’d go see a movie with me. We’d have bagels and a coffee and sneak those into the movies.

Favorite musician? I love all music, there really isn’t anything I don’t love in some way, shape or form. I have always loved listening to new music and people introducing me to music that really moves them. My niece and I have been bonding over Noah Kahan recently.

Favorite food? Pickles. There’s a recipe my mom used to make from my grandmother’s recipe, Red Hots & A Noodle Ring. It’s like hot dogs and sauce over egg noodles, and it’s so New England. It’s so good.

Favorite color? I always used to say my favorite color is plaid because I had so many favorite colors. It depends on what I’m doing.

What is something you cannot live without? Coffee, flowers, and my dogs.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I love going to Bermuda and Scotland.

What is your favorite thing about Newtown? It’s still so similar to the town I grew up in, yet it’s always changing and evolving to become better.

What is something you’d like to see The Newtown Bee cover, or cover further? Local farms and local small businesses. There are lots of startups in town.

Do you have a personal credo? One of the things we say around here a lot is “Better than it was,” meaning it might not be perfect yet but at least it’s better than it was, especially when everything’s a work in progress and you have anxiety about getting everything just right. Take the little victories. Also, “Come back with your shield or on it.” It’s a Roman/Greek thing, like come back with your shield after you’ve succeeded in battle, or you’re being dragged on it because you died trying.
