Girls’ Swimming And Diving Team Races Past Brookfield

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team capped off the regular campaign with a 99-85 win at Brookfield on October 24. The Nighthawks took first place in seven of the 12 events and used their depth with several second- and third-place finishes to seal the team victory with one race left.

The 200 yard medley relay team of Ella Seaver, Zoe Petertonjes, Grace Fischer, and Alexa Kwarcinski was second in a time of 1:55.56.

Petertonjes and Sierra Marx went one-two in the 200 freestyle race with times of 2:08.83 and 2:14.12. Kwarcinski was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.58. Diellza Limani came in second in the 50 free in 26.05.

Ella Hall took first place in the diving competition with a score of 250.1.

In the 100 butterfly race, Petertonjes was first in 1:00.62 and Fischer earned second in 1:05.67. Limani won the 100 free in a time of 56.73. Anna Shew claimed first in the 500, making her final touch in 5:53.73.

In the 200 free relay race, Limani, Seaver, Fischer, and Petertonjes combined to win in 1:47.67.

The 100 backstroke race was won by Kwarcinski, who clocked in at 1:03.02. Shew was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:17.23.

The 400 free relay comprising Limani, Lauren Smiley, Lillian Accettella, and Kwarcinski was second in 3:53.27, just behind Brookfield’s top relay team which finished in 3:53.23.

Up next is the South-West Conference Championships. The diving competition is scheduled for Monday, October 30 at Weston High beginning at 5:30 pm with the swim events to take place at Masuk of Monroe on Thursday, November 2 at 5 pm.
