This year marks the Ninth Annual Great Pumpkin Challenge on Main Street, which will become a hotbed of trick-or-treating on Halloween night.

In 2010, Mackenzie Page of Main Street [naviga:u]started the event to raise money for the Hole In The Wall Gang Camp[/naviga:u], an organization founded by Paul Newman to benefit ill children. Trinity Church [naviga:u]adopted the event from [/naviga:u][naviga:u]Ms[/naviga:u][naviga:u] Page in [/naviga:u][naviga:u]2016,[/naviga:u] when the founder — who created the event when she was an eighth grade student at Newtown Middle School — was in her first year of college. The church's youth group now coordinates the annual presentation.

Individuals and organizations are asked to carve Halloween pumpkins and then drop them off at Trinity Episcopal Church's front lawn at 36 Main Street with a $5 suggested donation per pumpkin. All donations will be sent to Hole In The Wall Gang Camp, where child campers receive free services.

Pumpkins can be dropped off on Tuesday, October 30, from 3 to 6 pm, and on Wednesday, October 31 (Halloween), from 2 to 5 pm.

As of midday on Monday, there were 57 carved pumpkins on display in front of the church.

On Halloween night, the pumpkins will be illuminated to make them even spookier.
