Patricia Philipp, 63, a longtime resident of Newtown, died peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends, October 29 at Danbury Hospital.  Born in Danbury, she graduated from Immaculate High School with the Class of 1969, and St Vincent’s School of Nursing with the Class of 1972.  Later in life, she went back to school and completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Sacred Heart University.

As a school nurse in Newtown, Ms Philipp was once voted Connecticut’s School Nurse of the Year. She was dedicated to her job and loved every minute of the time she spent with all of the students that came into her office over the years.

She loved to vacation with her family at Disney World, a favorite spot of both hers and her beloved late husband, Mark. She loved Broadway musicals, and took many bus trips to New York City to see the latest in stage entertainment.

Ms Phillip loved St Rose Church, especially the annual Christmas Boutique she helped plan every year. She was extremely generous and giving in nature, and she will be sorely missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her mother, Rita (McIlrath) Murphy; her children Amy Philipp-Zavatsky, Colin Philipp, and Carrie Philipp; son in-law Michael Zavatsky; and her beloved grandchildren, Taylor, Mark, Shea, Tighe, and Sam; her sister Karen Lilly; brother Jackie Murphy; sister in-law Monica Neligon; and brother -in-law David Philipp survive her. Her husband; father John Murphy; mother- and father-in-law Elizabeth and Edward Philipp; brother-in-law Pat McGrath; and her favorite Beatle, George Harrison, predeceased Ms Phillip.

Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Sunday November 2, from 2 to 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, Monday, November 3, at 11 am. Interment will follow in Newtown Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to The Sandy Hook Promise at www.sandyhookpromise.org or PO Box 3489, Newtown CT 06470.
