Please Leave Politics At Home On Halloween
Please Leave Politics At Home
On Halloween
To the Editor,
As a longtime Main Street homeowner who spends a great deal of time and effort, not to mention money, along with the countless other Main Street and vicinity residents that do the same, to make Halloween one of the top yearly events for Newtown children and families, I am requesting that no political party exploit us, our efforts, or the children for their own personal interests.
Politicians, please do not pander or peddle your party politics on Main Street on Halloween Eve. Please save your campaign literature and distribute it elsewhere. Halloween is not an appropriate venue for such campaigning and we all know where the flyers will end up. We do not put forth such effort to provide a political place or platform; we do it for the children and their families.
This is not like Labor Day where public monies are raised; Halloween is paid for in its near entirety by private homeowners. If a political party chooses to exploit the children and the Main Street homeowners on Halloween, then I hope you will remember that at the polls.
On another note, please remember to drop off a canned good in the front yard bin at 18 Main Street for the Faith Food Pantry on Halloween Eve. (Last year we collected a significant amount of food and we hope to do even better this year). I wish everyone an enjoyable and safe Halloween; we know it will be even bigger and better than everâ¦and Newtown families and children, know we homeowners love doing it for you!
Thank you.
Very truly yours,
Stephanie Gaston
