Nighthawk Swim Team Glides To Eighth Straight Win

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team earned its eighth straight win in a 102-81 triumph over visiting Lauralton Hall on October 26. The Nighthawks improved to 8-2 heading into the regular season finale Wednesday at Masuk in Monroe (after The Bee sports section went to press).

The Nighthawks will participate in the South-West Conference Championships with the diving portion scheduled for November 4 at Pomperaug High in Southbury at 6 pm and the swimming portion slated for November 7 at Masuk at 3:30 pm.

Newtown’s first- and second-place results from the Lauralton Hall meet are as follows:

200-yard freestyle relay: First, Colleen Carroll, Evelyn Fahey, Maggie Hoolehan and Kelsey McEvoy, 1:51.61. Second, Natalie Dunn, Caroline Lawrence, Bianca Solano and Zoe Eggleston, 1:54.19.

100 backstroke: Second, Maggie Atkinson, 1:08.55

100 breaststroke: First, Megan Baylis, 1:17.40.

400 free relay: Second, Carroll, Fahey, Lawrence, Solano, 4:10.13.

200 medley relay: Second, Kelsey McEvoy, Baylis, Atkinson and Hoolehan, 2:02.63.

200 freestyle: Second, Kelly Baylis, 2:13.58.

50 freestyle: Second, McEvoy, 27.13.

100 butterfly: First, Atkinson, 1:08.27.

100 freestyle: First, McEvoy, 58.60. Second, Hoolehan, 1:01.85.

50 freestyle: Second, Krysta Gates, 5:56.47.

Diving: First, Ellen Tabler, 158.50.
