Man Listed As Critical
Following I-84 Crash
A Hamden man with life-threatening injuries was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Danbury Hospital on the afternoon of Wednesday October 28, following a serious one-vehicle accident on Interstate 84 early on Sunday, October 25.
State police said motorist Larry Kelley, 25, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on I-84 in the area between Exit 9 and Exit 10 at about 3:45 am, when while negotiating a curve in the road, he lost control of the auto and struck a metal-beam guardrail along the right road shoulder.
The impact of the crash snapped the guardrail, after which the vehicle went down an embankment alongside the road, striking several small trees, state police said.
The Toyota came to rest about 40 feet down the steep slope.
Hawleyville firefighters extricated Kelley from the vehicle, after which he was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment.
State police listed Kellyâs injuries as chest/internal. Kelley was not wearing a safety belt and the vehicleâs airbag did not deploy, according to state police.Â
State police said the accident is under investigation.
