Local Families Light The Night For Cancer Research
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) held a well-attended fundraising event known as a Light The Night Walk on the night of Saturday, October 24, in the gymnasium at Newtown High School.
The event had been scheduled to occur outdoors there, but due to inclement weather it was moved into the spacious gymnasium.
Such events are held across the state by the Connecticut Chapter of LLS to help find cures for leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma.
Organizers of the Newtown event included Colette Ercole, Ginny Chion, and Gregg Simon.
Such events are designed to raise money for blood cancer research and for cancer patient programs.
Participants at the event carry balloons illuminated by small light bulbs. White balloons represent survivors. Red balloons symbolize supporters. Gold balloons represent people who have succumbed.
LLSâs mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkinâs disease, and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
