Hospital Hosting Three-Part Cancer Education Series

NEW MILFORD — On, Mondays, November 2, 9, and 16, from 6:45 to 8:30 pm, the New Milford Hospital Regional Cancer Center will host a Cancer Education Series. These lectures will be held in the New Milford Hospital Robison Conference Rooms as follows:

Session 1 — Monday, November 2, will focus on “The Family Connection: The Role of Genetics in Prevention & Treatment” with oncologist Anne Chiang, MD, PhD.

Dr Chiang will explain the relevance genetics has in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. She will discuss options available to clarify cancer risks, when initiating screenings at an earlier age is warranted, and the benefits of genetic counseling.

Session 2 — Monday, November 9, will examine “Cancer Research Brings New Treatment Options” with oncologist Debra Brandt, DO

Clinical trials in a community setting bring some of the latest treatment options to cancer patients and continue to help fight this disease. Dr Brandt will discuss the recent grant awarded from the Connecticut Clinical Oncology Trials Network and how it provides convenient access to some of the most advanced treatment to both patients who are newly diagnosed or who have advanced disease.

Session 3 — Monday, November 16, will promote “Support Programs for Patients & Families” with social work director Maureen Salerno, LCSW, and breast health navigator Denise Mariconda, RN, BSN.

The speakers will provide information on the many resources available through New Milford Hospital, the American Cancer Society, and other various organizations to assist cancer patients, friends, and family members with the sometimes overwhelming process of treatment and recovery.

These programs are free and open to the public. Participants; may register for one session or all three.
