Horse Guard Hosts Kindergartners

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) hosted a visit from the kindergarten class of Children’s Community School in Waterbury on October 21. 2GHG 2nd Lt Cindy Joyce is a Para-Professional at CCS and along with classroom teacher Janet Deary and 16 students, spent a few hours at 2GHG.

Major Gordon McNeil demonstrated grooming and riding on Rocky, explaining the bond between horse and rider and showing Rocky walk, trot and canter. Students then participated in a grooming session with mounts Custer and Dallas, and had a visit with Patton. There was a barn tour, complete with a trip to the hay loft.

The group enjoyed a picnic lunch and turn out in the hunt field. Students also saw 2nd Lt Jennifer Mazzara and the “trick” horse Tabasco. Students were able to ask Tobasco some questions, and he answered with a yes or no by shaking his head. He also waived, bowed, performed a Spanish walk, and ended with his famous flashy smile.
