Youthful Offender

Police report they arrested a “youthful offender” on a court warrant on October 26, charging the person with breach of peace in connection with an incident that occurred on September 18 at Newtown High School.

Details on the nature of the incident were not available. Police processed the arrest and released the person on a written promise to appear November 2 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Youthful offenders are people charged with crimes who are age 16 or age 17. Because the person is under 18, their identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

Political Signs

Sometime late on October 22 or early on October 23, someone damaged political advertising signs that were positioned near the intersection of Great Ring Road and Erin Lane, police report.

Police ask anyone with information on who damaged the signs to contact them at 426-5841.

Rear-Ender

About 2 pm October 23, motorist Amanda Fishback, 26, of 15 Lake Road, who was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy SUV, was waiting on southbound South Main Street to turn left onto northern Peck’s Lane, when a southbound 2005 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Craig Rosen, 45, of New Fairfield drove into the rear end of the GMC, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that Rosen had fallen asleep while driving, resulting in his being charged with reckless driving.

Knife Shown

Police report that at about noon on October 27, they charged a Newtown Middle School student with breach of peace because the student was in possession of a knife which the student had shown to multiple other students.

After arrest processing, police released the student on a written promise to appear November 9 in Danbury Juvenile Court. Because the youth is under age 18, their identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

Burglary/Larceny

About 11:45 am on October 22, police said a burglary occurred at a home near the eastern end of Chestnut Hill Road, off Route 34.

In that incident, jewelry, personal papers, and some money was stolen, police said. The two suspects in the case entered the home via an unlocked door, according to police.

Police described the burglars as two white males, each about 19 years old. The men apparently drove to the scene in an older white Honda hatchback.

One man was described as having a buzz-style haircut and wearing a white, hooded sweatshirt. The other man was described as having a thin beard and wearing a baseball with a large brim.

Police ask anyone with information about the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

NHS Theft

On the afternoon on October 27, police arrested a “youthful offender” on a warrant, charging the person with sixth-degree larceny in connection with a September 10 incident at Newtown High School. That charge involves the theft of items worth less than $250.

After processing, police released the person for a November 9 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. State law shields the identities of people under 18 who are charged with crimes.
