State Police Arrest Two Garner Inmates
State police report two separate violent incidents last week at Garner Correctional Institution, each of which resulted in assault charges against inmates at the stateâs high security prison at 50 Nunnawauk Road.
State police were called to the prison about 11:13 pm October 24 concerning an incident in which one inmate assaulted another inmate. State police allege that inmate Giovanni Diaz, 21, threw some hot water at another inmate, resulting in the victim receiving second-degree burns.
Diaz was arrested on a charge of third-degree assault. Diaz is scheduled to appear on November 2 in Danbury Superior for arraignment on the charge, state police said.
Diaz is serving an 18-month sentence in Garner on a conviction for risk of injury or impairing the morals of a minor.
In a separate incident, state police responded to Garner about 1:46 pm October 20 to investigate a case in which inmate Jared Kelly, 19, allegedly spat upon two correction officers.
State police arrested Kelly on two counts of assault on a peace officer and one count of failure to submit to fingerprinting.
Kelly was arraigned in court on the charges on October 21. He is scheduled to return to court on November 4.
Kelly is being held at Garner on $320,000 bail on pending criminal charges including threatening in connection with other incidents.
