A Collaborative Approach

For The Council

To the Editor:

You and I are local stakeholders in a wonderful place named Newtown. In these uncertain times, however, we somehow do not always feel like we are regarded as such, especially in an election year when the “usual” and many new “unusual” suspects jump on the transparency, communication, and planning bandwagons.

Right now, there is no shortage of people attempting to tell you and I what is important to us. Pardon me but, does this seem just a little presumptuous to you, too? And why are the loudest voices seemingly coming from those with the least experience serving our community’s boards, commissions, and local organizations?

Please, be thoughtful when you vote on Tuesday, November 3. Know your candidates, even though they do not yet know you.

I am Mitch Bolinsky, a nine-year Newtown resident having served eight years as a volunteer to youth and our community through opportunities, including scouting, the Board of Ethics, the Economic Development Commission, and more. I know many of our state legislators and have extensive private-sector background in committee and team leadership and consensus building.

If you live in Southern Newtown’s District 3 and want a real say in local affairs, please make me your Councilperson. No empty promises. Instead, I am sincerely committed to listening and representing the families of this district — making known our collective priorities with enthusiasm, integrity, and consideration of your needs. I pledge a return to resident-focused leadership and solid representation of District 3’,s families, seniors and small businesses.

I am running on the GOP line but do not consider council to be a politically partisan endeavor. It is not about me. It is about you.

A fiscal conservative, I oppose unfunded state or federal mandates. I believe our town and our schools must work hand in hand to achieve every conceivable efficiency and maximize the bang we get for every one of our taxpayer bucks. Money does not grow on trees. We all have a stake in establishing our consensus priorities and finding new, creative ways to operate our town more efficiently without mortgaging our children’s future or driving middle-class families and seniors from town.

I plan to do my best to understand your needs, wants, and concerns by holding regular District 3 open houses. In between, I will be available to you in-person, by phone, email, mail, or while picking up trash on Hattertown Road. Your issues will be promptly, courteously, and personally addressed, and every effort made to understand and represent your views. Nobody wins ‘em all, but all should be heard.

Better education, better services, better quality of life and no new taxes. I think it really is possible. Now, more than ever, it really is a necessity.

Please vote for Mitch Bolinsky to be your local advocate on November 3rd.

Thank you for reading this far. If you would like to learn more or express your views, I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Mitch Bolinsky
