Over 100 Bags Of Clothes Donated

Middle School student Alyssa McIntyreâs community service project for children at the Danbury Safe House paid off last week when over 100 bags of clothing were donated.
The clothing drive was held October 23 through 28. Boxes were put in various places throughout the middle school and many of them were overflowing with clothing by dayâs end on October 23.
Alyssa, an eighth grader, wanted to do something to help children. So she thought getting people to donate their old clothing and/or buying new things like clothes, school supplies, and backpacks would be a good way to get the community involved with helping other people, particularly children.
All the donated clothing was collected for the children at Danbury Safe House. The children at the Safe House, aged 3 to 12, do not have many belongings.
Several people stopped by the middle school on Saturday to drop off clothes and jackets that their children had outgrown.
âI just think itâs a great cause,â Janet Ciaccio said. âOur children grow so fast. They donât even wear the clothes out.â
Rachel Basch felt it was a good idea to donate because it is easy to take advantage of all the things some have that others do not.
âItâs a great thing,â Rachel said. âWe take for granted having warm clothing. There certainly is an excess of it.â
Over 100 bags of clothing were donated. People also donated juice boxes and backpacks for the children at the Danbury Safe House.
âI am very happy and very grateful,â Alyssa said. âThe generosity of the people of Newtown is heart warming.â
Alyssa plans to hold another clothing drive this spring. So do not throw anything away, and be ready to donate this spring.
