Newtown police report they went to Jeremiah Road about 500 feet north of Misty Vale Road about 12:30 am October 27 to investigate a motor vehicle accident.

Witnesses to the accident told police that the two people who had been in the 1997 Honda station wagon, which went off the road and struck a shed, a fence, and a mailbox, had fled the scene on foot.

Police said they found the two people walking a short distance from the scene of the crash.

Police said they gave the driver of the Honda, Daniel Randall, 32, of 4 Spring Trail, Sandy Hook, field sobriety tests and found him to be intoxicated. Police did not identify the other person.

Police charged Randall with driving under the influence, two counts of evading responsibility, and with operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Newtown police learned that state police had an outstanding warrant on Randall. State police then arrested Randall on a separate charge of evading responsibility.

Randall is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges in connection with the Jeremiah Road accident and also with the state police charge.

Warrant

Police said they informed Heather Brundage, 20, of Bridgeport October 27 they had a warrant for her arrest, after which she came to the police station.

Police charged her with second-degree failure to appear in court, failure to obey a traffic control signal, and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. Police released her on a $500 bond for a Nov 7 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Probation Charge

Police said they received a telephone call from an Algonquin Trail residence about 3:50 am October 29, informing them that an unwanted person was on the premises.

Police said they went to the home and served an outstanding warrant against Scott Pharo, 29, of Torrington, on a charge of violation of probation.

Police held Pharo on a $5,000 bond for an October 30 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Incident

State police said motorist Robert T. McNulty, 43, of Bethany was driving a 1989 Ford Escort coupe eastbound on Interstate-84, about one mile west of Exist 13, about 12:08 am October 28, when an unknown object struck the rear passenger-side window, breaking it. McNulty was not injured, state police said.

Truck Vs Car

State police said motorist Sarah C. Geikic, 48, of Columbia, Conn., was driving a 1994 Dodge van westbound on Interstate-84 near Exit 10 about 8:20 am October 23 when westbound tractor-trailer truck driver Joseph P. Pravia, 42, of Pittsfield, Mass, who was driving a 2000 Freightliner, swerved to avoid a non-contact vehicle and struck the rear of the Dodge.

There were no injuries. State police said Pravia was tailgating.

Bad Checks

Police said they arrested Catherine Barcello-Volpe, 34, of Stamford October 30 at Norwalk Superior Court on a Danbury Superior Court warrant listing two counts of issuing a bad check.

The charges stem from bad checks which Ms Barcello-Volpe allegedly passed at a Sand Hill Plaza store last May, police said.

Police said she was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court November 14.

 

      Elm Drive Crash

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Elm Drive and Country Club Rd about 6 pm October 27.

Police said motorist Brian J. Cascone, 18, of 37 Turkey Hill Road was driving a 1993 Mazda MX-6 northbound on Elm Drive about 35 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, when motorist Lori Ann Lippi, 39, of 29 Platts Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Durango, failed to grant the right of way at a stop sign on Country Club Road to the oncoming Mazda, resulting in a collision. There were no injuries.

Police issued Lippi a written warning for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign. Police issued Cascone a written warning for traveling at an unreasonable speed.

Rear-End Collision

 Police report an accident between a pick-up truck and a sport-utility vehicle about 2 pm October 28 at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Route 34 in Sandy Hook.

Police said motorist Roberta Doles, 31, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer, had stopped at a red light at the intersection.

Motorist Michael D. Johnston, 46, of 22 Oakview Road, who was driving a 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck, struck the rear end of the Blazer, police said. There were no injuries.

Police said they issued Johnston a misdemeanor summons on charges of following too closely and failure to have automotive insurance.

Calculator Thievery

Police report that during the week of October 16 seven stolen pocket calculators were recovered which had been taken from student bookbags left in the boys’ locker room at Newtown High School.

Police said they charged three male juveniles in the thefts in which more than $500 worth of calculators were stolen.

Police said they charged a 15-year-old student with fifth-degree larceny, charged a 14-year-old student with sixth-degree larceny, and charged another 15-year-old student with criminal attempt to commit sixth-degree larceny. Police declined to identify the students because they are under 16.

The youths are scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court November 8.

Police ask anyone who had a calculator stolen at the high school to contact school resource officer Robert Koetsch at 426-7648.
