FAIRFIELD â Dr Jean Bethke Elshtain will deliver the seventh annual Christopher Mooney Lecture in Theology, Religion, and Society on Wednesday, November 15, at 8 pm, in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University. Admission is free.
Professor Elshtain will speak on âChristianity and Politics: Rules On Engagement.â
Professor Elshtain is the author of several books, the most recent of which is Who are We?: Critical Reflections and Hopeful Possibilities. She is the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics in the Divinity School at University of Chicago.
The lecture, sponsored by the Office of the Academic Vice-President and the Department of Religious Studies at Fairfield University, honors the Rev Christopher F. Mooney, SJ, who served Fairfield as academic vice president from 1980 to 1987, and then as professor of religious studies until his death in 1993. He was the author of seven books, including Teilhard de Chardin and the Mystery of Christ, which won the National Catholic Book Award.
