SCAN Welcomes Members, Public To Annual Fall Show & Sale
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) presented its three-day Fall Show & Sale October 21-23.
Members were invited to display up to three original framed paintings and portfolios with up to 17 additional works in the non-juried show.
By Friday, when the show opened at 10 am, 22 artists had works on view, according to Roberta Shea, who was manning the welcome table that afternoon.
Shea and Anne Marie Foran, a fellow SCAN artist, greeted guests as they arrived in the gallery space that afternoon. SCAN member-artists took turns covering that responsibility all weekend.
Malina Schneider served as the show chair. Speaking with The Newtown Bee on October 24, Schneider was pleased with the weekend’s efforts.
“The show was fine. We had people coming in every day, and we sold a few paintings,” she said. “All of our walls were full with art, and we had a few racks of portfolios.”
Dubreuil Watercolor Landscape Program
SCAN will welcome Diane Dubreuil on Wednesday, November 9, for a 7:30 pm program at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.
Dubreuil plans to paint and landscape with watercolors while discussing her technique.
The demonstration is open to the public, free of charge.
Dubreuil is primarily a plein air artist who uses watercolor as her medium of choice. For nearly 25 years she worked as a digital artist and art director for the famed children’s author Mercer Mayer.
Among her many accolades, she is also a former chair of New Milford Commission on the Arts, having served on the commission for more than 25 years, and is a retired co-director of Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio in New Milford. Her work can be found in regional shows and galleries in Connecticut and Maine.
Reservations are not taken for SCAN events but additional information can be found at SCANart.org.
