State police said they have traced to Newtown an industrial vehicle they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Bridgeport on the night of October 25, in which a 54-year-old Bridgeport woman was killed.

Pedestrian Maria Mendoza-Robles was attempting to cross a limited-access section of Route 8 in Bridgeport at about 7:44 pm, when she was struck and killed by a traveling tri-axle dump truck, resulting in her death, according to state police.

The vehicle, a 2019 Peterbilt 389, continued traveling southward on Route 8 after the impact, state police said. The investigation indicates that the blue truck is owned by Newtown Electric, LLC, of Huntingtown Road, state police said.

"A person of interest has been identified as a possible operator of [the truck]," state police said. That person's identity was not disclosed.

On the morning of October 26, Newtown police assisted state police in the investigation in Newtown.

State police ask anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them at Troop G in Bridgeport at 203-696-2500.

Connecticut State Police are hoping to hear from anyone who witnessed an accident that involved a 2019 Peterbilt 389 full-size dump truck, similar to the one shown here, on October 25 on Route 8 in Bridgeport.
