The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut Foundation will be hosting an open house on Wednesday, November 6, from 5 to 7 pm, at its Newtown location at 127 South Main Street.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the Big Brothers Big Sisters Foundation and how to get involved. Guests will also be witness to a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Fire Selectman Pat Llodra. Drinks and appetizers will be available.

The location on Route 25 opened in March as a drop-off location for gently used clothing and household items.

“The response at this location has been amazing, both in how welcoming Newtown has been and in the amount of donations we have collected since opening the location.  We hope to be a longtime member of the community,” says Operations Manager Ken Kuntz.

The event is free, and all are welcome. It is being co-hosted by The Chamber of Commerce of Newtown.

Reservations are requested and can be made by contacting Alice Baye at 203-426-2695 or chamber@newtown-ct.com.

Established in 2009, The Big Brothers Big Sisters SWCT Foundation assists Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Connecticut by providing funding for its mentoring program by collecting gently used clothing and household items. The program reduces the environmental footprint by limiting what goes into local landfills. To date the foundation has kept over 11 million pounds of clothing, 5 million miscellaneous household items, and 130,000 pieces of furniture out of local landfills and transfer stations.

The Chamber of Commerce of Newtown, Inc. is dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of Newtown’s business community. It actively supports the expansion of business opportunities on behalf of its members through marketing, networking programs, community-sponsored events, and involvement in local economic development.
