LANI IRWIN PAINTINGS AT KATHARINA RICH PERLOW GALLERY w/1 cut
avv/gs set 10/29 #717661
NEW YORK CITY â The Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery presents an exhibition of Lani Irwinâs recent figurative paintings on view through December 1. The artist has been showing with the gallery since 1996.
The show travels here from the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, where Irwin recently enjoyed an exhibition of her paintings titled âThe Illusionist.â
In this latest series of paintings, Irwin continues her exploration of the inner psyche as expressed through the human body, in particular, the female form. The artist paints modern subjects in a masterful, classical style â the resulting paintings are at once contemporary and timeless. She often sets her figures against geometric backdrops that suggest fabric from carnival tents or stage curtains and where dance, performance and games of chance serve as metaphors for life.
Irwin, originally from Washington, D.C., lives and works in Italy with her husband, artist Alan Feltus. She is included in such collections as the Hirshorn Museum and the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C., and numerous private collections.
The artist is a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant recipient, and has exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D.C., Baltimore Museum, (Md.) and the Delaware Museum. In 2009, the couple will be featured in a two-person traveling museum exhibition opening at the Ogunquit Museum in Maine.
The gallery is at 41 East 57th Street. For more information, 212-644-7171.
