Misplaced Fervor

To the Editor:

In my opinion the letters to The Bee that castigate President Bush have misplaced fervor. The War on Terror is in Iraq, and other places. If the sentiment of those letters prevailed in WWII, the United States and its allies would have lost. President Roosevelt and General Eisenhower fought the war imperfectly, as happens in every war. But there was unity at home. The United States and its allies won because of unity. Where is our unity in fighting this war?

A marine I heard on talk radio calling from Yeman supports the President and not Kerry. He had been in Haiti keeping the peace, doing his job. The call brought a tear of pride to my eye.

Let us all remember that we’re over there because of 9/11. President Bush is needed to finish the job. The slogan “Don’t change horses in midstream” used during the 1944 Roosevelt/Dewey election is absolutely appropriate now.

St Rose Church’s Sunday bulletin lists 28 serving local soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines for remembrance. One of them is army Major William Gottmeier. I believe it is his dad who writes straight and patriotic letters to The Bee. Let us also remember local patriotic civilians who are over there putting their lives in danger. Sandra Cointreau, an engineer from Roxbury working to rebuild water and sewer services, and Peter Tragni, a policeman from Danbury working to train Iraqi police.

Lastly it makes my blood boil to see the majority of the national media scheme to make Bush lose the election. The latest this week, CBS and The New York Times collaborating to release a false story on October 30 about tons of explosives lost. It was released October 25 instead. But NBC had the truth, because an imbedded correspondent saw the explosives were not there when the 101st Airborne arrived in Baghdad in April 2003. Wake up America. This is your life.
