Medical Town Meetings To Examine Reflux Disease And COPD

DANBURY — “Beyond Heartburn — Prevention and Treatment of Reflux Disease” is the topic for discussion at the first of two Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings during the month of November.

The first program will take place Tuesday, November 9, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at Danbury Hospital’s auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue.

Featured speakers will be Keith Zuccala, MD, medical director of laparoscopic surgery at the hospital, and gastroenterologist Joan Culpepper-Morgan. The program explores prevention, diagnosis, and medical and surgical therapies for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. Surgeon Laura Choi, MD, will facilitate the evening program.

A second Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meeting, “Straight Talk About Lung Cancer & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),” will be conducted on Tuesday, November 16, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at the Danbury Hospital auditorium. Program attendees also are invited to join screeners in the hospital’s auditorium foyer from 5 to 7 pm for a free pulmonary function screening. The screenings are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and no RSVP is required.

Featured speakers at the November 16th Medical Town Meeting include Douglas Kahn, DO, attending physician in the hospital’s pulmonary medicine section, Patricia Dilauro, coordinator of the hospital’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, and Marianne Mitchell, coordinator of the hospital’s smoking cessation program, “Quit Now.” A medical oncologist and a surgeon also will participate in the program. They will discuss current concepts in the diagnosis, treatment and management of COPD and lung cancer.

Frank Salvatore, manager of the hospital’s Department of Respiratory Services and Neurophysiology, will serve as the program’s moderator.

Ample time will be provided for audience questions. Medical Town Meetings are free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. Park free in the Blue visitor’s parking lot, Hospital Avenue entrance.
