‘Guy Stuff’ At Brookfield Museum

BROOKFIELD CENTER — Brookfield Historical Society is currently presenting an exhibition called “Guys’ Stuff.”

According to John Furlong, the president of Brookfield Historical Society, the exhibit will appeal to both sexes but may cater a little more to the interests of the male population of the community. Articles in the exhibit include historic items associated more with the activities of men: there is a large selection of antique carpenter and agricultural tools and toolboxes, vintage smoking items including old meerschaum pipes, tin tobacco cans and branded cigarette lighters, pocketknives, and more.

There is also an early Gilbert Erector Set dating to 1927, showcases of animal skulls, Indian arrowheads, telephone pole insulators, and antique toys and autographed baseball memorabilia.

Of more universal appeal is be a collection of Presidential campaign buttons dating back to the later part of the 19th Century, a special exhibit featuring the history of the Brookfield Fire Department, and a photograph of Norman Rockwell taken just before his death by the world renown photographer and Brookfield resident Gary Burdick.

The museum is on Route 25 at the intersection of Route 133. It is open every Saturday and the first Sunday in November from noon to 4 pm, by special appointment, or when the Exhibit Open sign is displayed. For more information on this and other scheduled events call 740-8140 or visit www.BrookfieldCTHistory.org.
