Church Leaders Need To Address Political Issues
Church Leaders Need To
Address Political Issues
To the Editor:
In response to the letter on âChurch Teachings and the Pulpit,â I respectively disagree with the writerâs comments. Since this letter does not identify the service she attended, I cannot respond to her direct concerns. I can though respond as an educated member of a church, that there are current political issues that I feel need to be address by the church leaders because of what the church teaches. We need the information to make the best conscience decision. For example, abortion and same sex marriages are political issues which have are direct impact on practicing Catholics.
Since the writer seems very concerned about leadership roles, it concerns me that Senator Kerry appears to be setting up is own rules regarding being Catholic. He is not a church leader and does not have the authority to decide what is right or wrong. His pro-abortion stance can confuse practicing Catholics.
Most importantly, all of our churches must continue to keep all our political leaders in their prayers. Â
