Ryan J. Shanley, a 2002 graduate of Newtown High School, recently graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash.

The training provides the professional preparation and evaluation for cadets in all aspects of military life, administration, and logistical support. Ryan is the son of David and Ruthanna Shanley of Newtown.

Navy Midshipman John W Hamilton, son of Paige Hamilton of Newtown and Brock Hamilton of Ridgefield, recently completed Plebe Summer at the United States Naval Academy and has begun four years of preparation for commissioning as a Navy or Marine Corps officer.

Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher P. Radomski, a 2004 graduate of Newtown High School, recently completed US Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Christopher completed a variety of training, including classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety, and survival. Its distinctly “Navy” flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
