Antique Car Buff Wins Mustang Raffle

“I’d look so good in that car,” thought Elizabeth Borntraeger as she purchased her raffle ticket from the Newtown Lions at the Bridgewater antique car show. But she never thought her wish would come true; she had bought many tickets for car raffles over the years and never won.

Finally, her lucky number came up and she became the new owner of a classic 1965 Mustang convertible.

Mrs Borntraeger is a retired computer operator formerly employed by the State of New York. She is a resident of Scotia, N.Y., a suburb of Schenectady.

Asked what attracted her to buy the ticket, she said she and her husband, Bill, are antique car buffs. They also own a 1941 Buick Super and a 1946 Nash Ambassador Brougham. To the Borntraegers, the red Mustang convertible is a new car.

Mrs Borntraeger also she bought the raffle ticket because of the Lions Club’s commitment to juvenile diabetes programs, blind prevention, and eye research. When she picked up the car, she made an additional donation of $250 to help the Lions help more charities and programs.

The annual Mustang raffle is the biggest fundraising activity for the Lions. Club members displayed the car for six months at a variety of shows and fairs throughout Connecticut, New York, and Massachusetts. This year’s raffle was the most successful so far and raised funds for more than 40 charities and community projects.
