A Video Visit To Jones Family Farms

Next week’s Dolly Curtis Interviews... cable television program will feature the legendary Phil Jones and The Jones Family Farms of Shelton and Monroe.

Phil Jones, at 87 years young, takes Ms Curtis and the audience on a trip around the Jones Christmas Tree Farm and to the strawberry and blueberry fields on a hot summer day. He is filmed working on his favorite activity, lumbering barn wood on his huge saw mill which he tells Ms Curtis is his “exercise machine” that keeps him from “rusting.”

With another generation about to be born, the Jones family will soon have four generations on the farm at one time. The Jones Family Farms is the largest working farm in Fairfield County on 400 acres. It is a beautiful place.

Phil Jones is a favorite person among those who know him. He has been extremely generous to community organizations in Monroe and Shelton over many decades, providing lumber for historic buildings and sharing his resources and energy with them for their endeavors. Just this autumn Jamie, his grandson, has started a new winery at the farm using the berries for a fruit flavored wine. Terry, Phil’s son, speaks of his father at length in the interview and then describes his own role in running the family farm.

The new episode of Dolly Curtis Interviews… will be broadcast on Charter Communications’ channel 21 on Mondays, November 1 and 8, at 4 pm, and Wednesdays, November 3 and 10, at 8 pm. The program is also scheduled to air on the Cablevision (Easton, Redding, Norwalk, Stamford, Westport, Weston, Darien and New Canaan) and Cable Soundview Media (Fairfield, Bridgeport, Milford, Stratford and Orange) systems in upcoming weeks.

After its broadcast, copies of the video will be available in many public libraries for borrowing. Videos of many episodes of Dolly Curtis Interviews…, which has been in production for 20 years, are also available.

The video was produced and hosted by Dolly Curtis with Victor Cromwell as cameraman and editor. Cablevision of CT provided the production facilities in its ongoing community commitment to Public Access Television.
