Halloween is a fun time for most kids, but for those with food allergies, it can be hard to navigate. Due to most chocolate candies being made in facilities that also process major allergens such as peanuts and tree nuts, a lot of children get left out on Halloween.

Newtown resident Lisa Yu is doing her best to help those kids out. Yu worked directly with Newtown Community Center to organize a donation box in the lobby for teal pumpkins and Halloween non-food treats, like bubbles, spider rings, and other fun toys.

Community Center Director Matt Ariniello and Newtown Parks & Recreation staff joined Yu in organizing these efforts.

Yu said “it was easy to get [the teal pumpkin donation] going because so many caring individuals donate.” She added the “community is so caring,” and is happy to be doing the collection again.
