To the Editor:

I’m writing in support of Jennifer Padilla and Daniel Cruson for the Board of Education. These two will represent the best interests of our children going forward. They are compassionate, rely on facts in making their decisions, and have experience within the Newtown school system.

They also are willing to listen to all of the people in this town — an important trait but increasingly rare in a divided society. Newtown is made up of Democrats, Republican,s and Independents alike. We are a town of people who represent all kinds of races, languages, and religions. Everyone deserves a voice on the future of education in our town. Padilla and Cruson are willing to listen to everyone — not just the people who vote for them or fall into their demographic bucket.

As a father with two young kids, I want someone who will be in our corner going forward. I want people who understand the importance of diversity, special education, and inclusive programming. We need people who aren’t afraid to stand up and make tough decisions and face the public. We have seen from the past year and a half the importance of accountability in public service.

We need people who will advocate for our children, listen to the concerns of parents, and be accountable for their decisions. Quite simply, Padilla and Cruson fit the bill. On November 2, vote for them for the Board of Education.
