To the Editor:

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce, straight from Carnegie Hall, William DeRosa, stepping into a new role as candidate for Newtown’s Legislative Council, in District-1.

Before reading this letter, most of you didn’t know Newtown had a world-renowned, Julliard-schooled, classical cello-soloist. William is just that, yet he is a humble man who doesn’t flaunt his special gifts or his world travels. In fact, when I first asked him what he did for a living, he chuckled and changed the subject. Curiosity got the best of me so, later, I Googled him. The first quote that appeared was from late cellist Leonard Rose, identifying Mr. DeRosa as “one of the most brilliant cello talents in the world.”

William and I met in 2018 at an anti-tolls rally in Hartford. Long before I came to know him for the beautiful music he makes, I saw a passionate, likeable, “Pied Piper” kind of guy, able to attract and engage folks as a leader in the non-partisan No Tolls CT movement. With his help, we were able to push back Governor Malloy’s, and now, Governor Lamont’s, attempts to increase our taxes using tolls.

Now, for the love of Newtown, he’s running for Legislative Council in District 1. He and his family have lived on Taunton Hill since 2011 and thoroughly understand the importance of our town’s special character, its reputation for awesome schools, and the desire to hold tight to our outstanding quality of life.

Please, make a “note” to meet William DeRosa. Share your thoughts on moving Newtown forward, building on our strengths, working with open minds, getting a handle on taxes, and leveraging our outstanding schools to grow our town responsibly, also benefiting those residents on fixed incomes.

On November 5th, please vote and please consider William DeRosa.

Mitch Bolinsky

State Representative

3 Wiley Lane, Newtown October 28, 2019
