Students Invited To Annual College 2 Career Expo
WETHERSFIELD â With approximately 120,000 students attending a Connecticut or Massachusetts college or university, the eighth annual College 2 Career Expo being held November 9 at the Enfield Holiday Inn is a must-attend event for those close to earning a degree, preparing to enter the world of work, or seeking information on co-ops and internships.
Sponsored by the Hartford Springfield Economic Partnership, the Connecticut Department of Labor, Connecticut Light and Power, and local colleges and universities, the event runs from 11 am to 3 pm, and more than 50 companies and organizations are expected to be in attendance.
âThe Hartford-Springfield corridor is a unique geographical area offering many opportunities to young people,â explains State Labor Commissioner Glenn Marshall. âIt is home to more than 40,000 companies employing more than 750,000 individuals, and boasts one of the highest concentrations of professional and technical workers in the country.â
Students can also receive career advice from Connecticut Department of Labor staff, including current job market trends and âhot jobsâ of the future. Professional résumé writers from the agency will be on site throughout the day to review and critiques résumés, and provide tips to help ensure they effectively showcase skills and accomplishments.
âThe goal of the Expo is to connect students with job opportunities, internships, and co-ops, and this event provides an excellent forum for attendees to talk one-on-one with representatives from a number of well-known companies and organizations, and to fine tune their résumés,â Commissioner Marshall added.
Companies participating in this yearâs College 2 Career Expo include Beacon Industries, CIGNA, Fastenal Company, the Massachusetts School of Law, Pratt & Whitney, The Hartford Financial Service Group, TicketNetwork, and Verizon Wireless.
Admission is free for students. Directions to the Enfield Holiday Inn as well as a complete listing of all attending employers can be found on the Connecticut Department of Laborâs Web site at ct.gov/dol or at collegecareerexpo.com.
This year, students visiting the college career expo website can enter a drawing for an Apple iPad2 being donated by Northeast Utilities.
