South Main Collision
Police report a two-car accident at the southern intersection of South Main Street and Peckâs Lane about 5:45 pm on October 20.
Police said that motorist John Cochran, 45, of Monroe, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan, made a turn in front of approaching motorist Randi Jackson, 17, of 6 Bonnie Brae Drive, who was driving a 2001 Volvo V-70 station wagon, resulting in a collision.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cochran an infraction for failure to grant the right of way and for failure to carry a current automotive insurance identification card.
Sunny View Terrace
At about 8:30 am on October 17, motorist Marge Eldridge, 89, of 20 Sunny View Terrace, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla sedan, was backing out of her driveway at the roadâs turnaround circle, as William Pendergast, 33, of 23 Riverside Road was turning on the street while driving a 2007 GMC truck, resulting in a collision, police said. There were no injuries, police said.
Church Hill Crash
About 3:30 pm on October 13, motorist Hillary Smith, 22, of 170 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV westward on Church Hill Road, stopped suddenly for a traffic signal on Church Hill Road near Interstate 84âs Exit 10 ramps, police report.
Westbound motorist Marjorie Kopsco, 69, of 4 Overlook Drive, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Outback station wagon, then struck the rear end of the Jeep, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kopsco for following too closely.
Police Accident
Police said that police Officer Matthew Pirhala, 24, who is undergoing police recruit field training, was driving a marked 2010 Ford Crown Victoria sedan police car northward on a wet Hawleyville Road, south of its intersection with Farrell Road at about 9:17 am on October 20, when, as Ofc Pirhala rounded a curve in the road, the auto slid across the southbound lane and rotated on the pavement, with its rear bumper striking some wire cabling alongside the road shoulder.
Neither Ofc Pirhala, nor Ford passenger Officer Bart Lorancaitis, 27, who is a field training officer, were injured, police said. The accident is under investigation, police said.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Richard Rhyins, 53, of New Fairfield went to the police station on the afternoon of October 20, and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction and with failure to obtain a rabies vaccination for a dog, police said.
Police said that the charges stem from an April 26 incident involving Rhyinsâ dog in which Rhyins was issued an infraction to which Rhyins did not respond. Consequently, police received the warrant for Rhyinsâ arrest.
After he posted $136 bail, police released Rhyins for a November 8 court appearance.
Moving Violations
Police report that at about 12:47 pm on October 20, they stopped motorist Geritt Walker, 34, of New Milford to investigate near 26 Hawleyville Road (Route 25).
Police said they charged Walker with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and also with driving with a suspended license.
Walker was released on $250 bail for a November 3 court appearance, police said.
Traffic Signal
At about 6:30 pm on October 23, police report they saw motorist Jeanne Pasacreta, 54, of 1 Lovellâs Lane drive through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the Exit 10 ramps of Interstate 84, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police said they charged Pasacreta with failure to obey a traffic control signal and with driving with a suspended license.
After she posted $100 bail, police released Pasacreta for a November 8 court appearance.
Sugar Street
While on patrol about 9:45 pm on October 23 on Sugar Street, near Juniper Road, police stopped motorist Lucy French, 21, of 14 Valley View Road to investigate.
Police said they charged French with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.
French was released on a written promise to appear in court on November 8, police said.
Digital Player
Police said this week they are seeking the owner of a silver-colored Apple-brand iPod digital media player that was found near the playground at Dickinson Park last March 24. The owner is believed to be a Taunton Lake Road resident. The owner may claim the device by identifying it at the police station.
Chainsaw Theft
Sometime on October 21 or October 22, someone entered a locked storage area at a Huntingtown Road residence and stole a Stihl-brand chainsaw. Police are investigating the theft and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Vehicle Vandalized
Sometime between October 18 and 20, someone vandalized an unspecified vehicle at a Berkshire Road residence located near its intersection with Bennetts Bridge Road. Police are investigating the vehicular damage and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact them at the police station.

South Main Impact
A two-vehicle accident occurred near 40 South Main Street about 12:35 pm on October 20.
Motorist Bryan Shanks, 32, of New Milford was driving a 2002 Ford E-250 van southward on South Main Street, as Steven Carmichael, 60, of 17 Robin Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 International 4000 truck, was pulling out of a driveway, resulting in a collision, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said Carmichael received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Van Hits Bus
At about 3:17 pm on October 19, J. Balram, 56, of Mahopac, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 GMC bus with one passenger onboard, was waiting on westbound Wasserman Way to make a left turn onto the Exit 11 on-ramp for Interstate 84, when the GMC was hit from behind by westbound driver David Jones, 29, of Scranton, Penn., who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Express van, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Jones a written warning for following too closely.
Snowplow
Sometime between 8 and 9 am on October 24, someone entered a Castle Hill Road property, near the intersection with Kent Road, and stole a nine-foot-wide stainless steel snowplow from the premises, police said.
The snowplow has lighting units affixed to it. The unit, which weighs about 800 pounds, has the brand name Fisher X-Blade painted on the plow face. Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 203-426-5841.
Gas Station
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the Citgo gas station at 151 South Main Street about 3:19 pm October 24.
Motorist Paul Kabusk, 74, of 23 Pleasant Hill Road, who was driving a 1995 Ford F-350 truck, was waiting at the southern entrance to the station, and motorist Michael Murphy, 37, of 4 Benjamin Drive, who was driving a 2007 Honda Accord sedan, was waiting behind the Ford, police said.
The Ford then backed up, striking the front end of the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Computer Theft
Sometime between 9:30 pm on October 20, and 8:45 am on October 21, someone broke a passenger-side window on a vehicle parked in a residential driveway on Lafayette Trail and then stole a laptop computer from within the vehicle, police said.
Lafayette Trail is a dead-end street off Tamarack Road, near Upper Paugussett State Forest.
The value of the theft and vehicle damage is estimated at $1,650. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer William Hull at police station, 3 Main Street, at 203-426-5841 or via e-mail at william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.

Minivan Into Tree
Motorist Ahmed Ahsan, 46, of 3 Pocono Road was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan southward near 24 Pocono Road at about 11 pm October 20, when a deer ran across the road in front of the vehicle, police said.
Ahsan swerved to the right avoid hitting the animal, but the minivan collided with a tree, police said. Ahsan was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Ahsan for failure to maintain position in the travel lane.
