Rotary Club Buys Theater Seats

The Newtown Rotary Club, known for its many services for the community, is contributing in another way. They are buying three seats from their fellow service club, the Newtown Lions Club, in the Lions Club’s Tercentennial Edmond Town Hall Seats Program.

The Rotary is known for its development of and support of water purification systems, for honoring students of the month at the Middle School and St Rose, and for its work for Shelter of the Cross, Ability Beyond Disability, the Dorothy Day Shelter, and Kevin’s Community Center as well as its contributions to many local charities. This year is a big year for the rotary as it is celebrating its 100th anniversary as a service club.

With the Rotary purchase of these three seats it brings the total number of seats sold by the Lions Club to 295. Additional money, however, has been collected because many people have not wished to buy a seat at $300 but have wanted to contribute. These smaller donations are very necessary as when all 411 seats are sold, there will still be a need of more than $25,000 to reach to $150,000 figure that is the estimate for what the seats will cost, counting installation and floor repair.

Anyone wishing to contribute may send tax-deductible checks made out to the Edmond Town Hall Board of Managers. The checks should be mailed to the Newtown Lions Club, Attention: Gordon Williams, PO Box 218, Newtown. Call Mr Williams at 426-6443 for more information.
