*Art For The Tercentennial: C.H. Booth Library, in honor of the townâs Tercentennial, is featuring art by Newtown students of all grades celebrating favorite Newtown places. The exhibit is open during regular library hours.
*Historical Society exhibit: Until Thanksgiving, Newtown Historical Society will be exhibiting some treasures from its collection this month including some of William Sniffenâs souvenirs from his service in the Civil War. Sniffen was proud of his service in the Second Connecticut Light Artillery, and especially proud to have fought at Gettysburg.
Along with Sniffenâs sword, hat, canteen and holster, the society is exhibiting some other wonderful artifacts that have not been on view for quite a long time.
*Captured Moments: Beth Schweitzer will be presenting âCaptured Moments,â an exhibition of her art using acrylics, at the library from November 4 through November 30.
Programs For Children
*Halloween Fun: Children ages 3-7 can drop into the library Monday afternoon, October 31, from 4 to 6 pm, for Halloween stories and crafts.
The program will be sponsored by the C.H. Booth Libraryâs Young Adult Council. Costumes are encouraged. No sign-up required.
For Young Adults
*Young Writersâ Salon will be held on Friday, November 4, at 7 pm.
Sign up for the third annual evening of reading by young people in grades 6-12.
The program is being expanded this year to include both poetry and other original creative writing. We invite you and your friends to read to the audience of parents and friends in the coffeehouse atmosphere.

*Letâs Talk About: The next Young Adults book discussion, on Wednesday, November 12, will be about Soldier Boys by Dean Hughes. The discussion will run from 4 to 5 pm.
Spencer and Dieter are both teenagers, both love their country, and both want to show what they are made of. But World War II is going on, and Dieter and Spencer are not on the same side.
These monthly book discussions for grades 5-9 are co-sponsored by Reed Intermediate School, and books are available at both libraries. Sign up at the Booth Libraryâs main floor circulation desk or call Booth Library.
Adult Programs
*Book Talks: Upcoming discussions include Tuesday, November 1, at 1 pm, Fast-Food Nation by Eric Schlosser; Monday, November 14, at 1 pm, Persuasion by Jane Austen; and Thursday, November 17, at 7:30 pm, Dreams from My Father by Barack Obama.
*Author Talk: Suzanne Strempek Shea, the author of seven critically acclaimed books, will be at the library on Thursday, November 3, at 7:30 pm, to discuss Shelf Life, a charming and engaging memoir on her year spent working at an independent bookstore in western Massachusetts.
Full of wonderful anecdotes about favorite books and favorite patrons, this is a book for anyone who loves to read.

*De-Stressing with Paint: A wonderful class for adults, âDe-Stressing with Paintâ will be offered on Tuesday, November 15, at 7 pm. Here is a chance to get in touch with your creative side.
The supply fee is $5 and the class size is limited to 15; there are currently eight spaces are available.
*Book Nook News: There are two new sections at the Book Nook. Look for the Oprah books and also for the Collectibles.
