Mr and Mrs Carlos Alves

Teri Elizabeth Callahan, daughter of Jack Callahan of Shelton and Ann Callahan of Norman, Okla., and Carlos Alves, son of Mr and Mrs Joao Alves of Monroe, were joined in marriage on September 17 by the Rev Lee Moore at the Newtown Congregational Church.

The bride graduated from Quinnipiac University in Hamden. She is employed as a third grade teacher at Sandy Hook School.

Mr Alves is a graduate of New England Technical Institute. He is an electrician for Repko Electric out of Stratford.

The bride was given in marriage by her father and carried a bouquet of roses designed by Lexington Gardens in Newtown. She wore a strapless gown and donned a veil with beaded headpiece.

Maid of honor was Amy Callahan of Shelton, the bride’s twin sister. Sandra Alves, Monroe, sister of the groom, Rachel Fosovita, Fairfield, Melissa Dowd, Hamden, and Lisa and Christina Tangredi of Northport, N.Y., served as bridesmaids. The attendants wore Water Too dresses by Julie Allen Bridal of Newtown in a pink and black motif. They also carried flowers by Lexington Gardens.

Garvin Roos, Wilton, and Rob Rygiel, Beacon Falls, served as best men for the groom. Nelson Ribas, Monroe, Danny Ferreira, Monroe, Michael Callahan, Shelton, brother of the bride, and Tom Verdock, Stratford, were ushers.

Natalie Alves, Monroe, the groom’s niece, was flower girl at the ceremony.

A reception was held at The Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Conn.

The couple took a brief wedding trip to Mystic, Conn., following the wedding. They will travel to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in February 2006. They make their home in Monroe.
