George Everett Bird, 69, formerly of Guilford, Meriden, and Wallingford died October 22. He was the beloved companion of Maureen Delahunt of Cheshire and former husband of Betsy Russell Bird. Mr Bird born in Meriden, October 8, 1936, the son of Everett and Ethel Bailey Bird.
 He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Kirner and her husband, Michael, of Newtown and Gwendolyn Bottomley and her husband, Scott, of Chelmsford, Mass.; a son, Christopher Bird and his wife, Kelly, of Corvallis, Ore.; a sister, Jean Kohan of Wallingford; five grandchildren, Alex, Mitchell, and Nicholas Bottomley and Andrew and Ian Kirner; and several nieces and nephews. A sister, Muriel Bird, predeceased George.
Mr Bird served four years in the United States Air Force and was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School and the University of Connecticut. He was employed as a computer programmer and analyst at Aetna for 30 years, until his retirement in 1990. Mr Bird had a lifelong interest in the United States Civil War history and had a passion for sailing and seamanship. Â
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, at 11 am, at St Paulâs Episcopal Church, 65 North Main Street, Wallingford. Burial will be at St Paulâs Memorial Garden. There are no calling hours.
It is suggested that gifts in his memory be made to the Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care, 267 Finch Avenue, Meriden CT 06451. The Wallingford Cremation Service, 273 South Elm Street is in charge of arrangements.
