William Tyler Saunders
William “Bill” Tyler Saunders, 60, of Fairfield, died peacefully October 19. Born November 28, 1954, he was the son of the late Martha Ann Tyler Saunders Fox and William Kenneth Saunders.
He is survived by his wife, soulmate, and partner in life for more than 40 years, Mary; his two cherished daughters, Suki and Maggie; his siblings, Ned Saunders of Newtown, Robin Saunders of Sunapee, N.H., Holly Hawes of Darien, and Lee Gaw of Nantucket, Mass., and their spouses; numerous nieces and nephews; and hundreds of dear friends. His parents; his stepfather, Jim Fox; and his beloved sister, Jody Richard, predeceased Mr Saunders.
He grew up in Darien with his five siblings, and was able to explore most of the country alongside his adventurous, loving family. Mr Saunders graduated from Darien High School in 1973, and then obtained a BS in environmental sciences from Eastern Connecticut State University, in 1977. While in college, he worked at Baldridge Reading and Study Skills in Greenwich, where he found his love for the print industry.
He continued his career as the production manager of Union Pen, and later became a first vice president at TD Waterhouse in New York City, where he was responsible for all fulfillment and print purchases. Most recently, he was a direct marketing consultant.
Mr Saunders was gifted with a multitude of skills, and loved mentoring, teaching, and sharing his vast knowledge with his colleagues. But it was his role as a dad where he truly shined. He loved raising his daughters, and taught them both the meaning of true love and the importance of family. His kind, friendly, and generous spirit was contagious. He could make anyone laugh, and was passionate about helping others and making sure everyone he met felt special. He truly lived his life treating others as he would want to be treated. He loved technology, traveling, cooking, fishing, boating, clamming, riding his bike, skiing, hiking, good music, meditating, and exploring with his dog.
A celebration of Mr Suander’s life will take place in November, with details to follow.
