Ben’s Lighthouse will host a panel discussion on Tuesday, October 28, at 7 pm, at C.H. Booth Library.

Participants of the group’s recent trip to Colorado, when 20 young adults and five chaperones traveled to Loveland, to help continue the rebuilding efforts following last fall’s flooding. The volunteers spent the week framing, installing drywall, rebuilding decks, clearing debris, landscaping and anything else they were asked to do.

It was the second relief trip in as many years sponsored by the Newtown-based organization. In 2013, a different group of teens and chaperones traveled to Oklahoma to help in the recovery from deadly tornadoes that had rolled through the area a few months earlier.

On Tuesday at the library, participants will discuss what the group has accomplished to date. A discussion on what Ben’s Lighthouse hopes to achieve in the future will also be part of the evening.

The program is recommended for ages 14 and up, parents, educators, and anyone interested in learning about Ben’s Lighthouse and how to continue to create a positive impact on this community and beyond.

Light refreshments will be served.

Ben’s Lighthouse was named for Benjamin Wheeler, a 6-year old victim of the December shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Its purpose and mission is to promote the long-term health of Newtown’s young people and families and nurture a culture of non-violence and caring through a series of community building events, workshops, and community service activities.

Ben’s Lighthouse Fund is a 501(c)(3)restricted fund of Trinity Episcopal Church, Newtown.
