Conference On Teen Issues
Conference On Teen Issues
HARTFORD â The pre-teen and teenage years can sometimes be the most difficult and trying years for teens and adults. In an effort to bridge the gap between the two, the Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts Council (CVGSC) will co-sponsor a conference for adults geared at focusing on some of the tougher issues and problems confronting todayâs youths. The conference will be held on Saturday, November 13, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
The keynote speakers for the event will be authors Charlene Gianetti and Margaret Sagarese. They are co-authors of the award-winning book The Roller Coaster Years, which focuses on the critical middle school years, and Parenting 911. Their keynote address and workshops will focus on strategies and tactics for understanding and communicating with the important, often overlooked, 10 to 15 year old.
The workshops will also help parents, volunteers, and professionals address issues of violence, drugs, self-confidence, sexuality and advocacy for the young teen.
A special workshop/discussion forum for teens will be held the day before at the Auerbach Science Center at the Hartford College for Women on Friday, November 12, from 6 to 8:30 pm. The parenting experts are available to answer the other topics not covered at either event by simply logging on to VillageâsParentSoup on America Online.
